Usually I make chocolate covered strawberries (for Heath) and chocolate covered homemade caramels (for the rest of us) as Valentines treats. Then I make sugar cookies to send to school with the kids. This year I just didn’t get all 3 done. Oh well…
I did get the chocolate covered strawberries made. And of course (because I do not enjoy eating them at all), I enjoyed taking pictures…as the peanut gallery asked if the strawberries were having a fashion show. Funny, real funny.
(and if I had known my hands would have been so visible today, I would have thought about painting my nails…probably wouldn’t have done it, but would have at least thought about it. Then maybe my black finger nail, a battle wound from putting up the Christmas lights, wouldn’t be so obvious.)
So, peanut gallery, I introduce to you the models…
Now they get dressed…
And here they come…
Down the Runway…
For those who are interested:
The chocolate I use to dip the strawberries is the same chocolate I use for peanut clusters. For the strawberries, I melt it in a double boiler instead of in the oven. It’s easier to dip them if the chocolate is deeper.
I use:
1 block almond bark (white)
1 bag semi sweet chocolate chips
1 bag milk chocolate chips
I remember (years ago) my Aunt Carolyn (aka “G”) made fondant to put on the strawberries before you dip them in chocolate. Heather and I have talked about doing that, then the strawberries would be like Dinstuhl’s in Memphis. I remember it taking forever, though. I’m going to look into it and maybe we will try it…I’ll keep you posted.
That's a lot of strawberries!
What does it say that when I went to bed last night, there were only 3 left??? But, keep in mind, there were 4 kids and 3 adults enjoying them. Doesn't take long for them to disappear!
