For tomorrows New Orleans themed Super Bowl Party, I am making 2 desserts: Bread Pudding with two different sauces, Caramel and Bourbon and Bananas Foster (Tommy’s second favorite dessert, second only to Creme Brulee.) I went ahead and made the caramel sauce today. It was so easy (and yummy!) it will become a regular around here!
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
4 TBSP flour
1 cup boiling water
dash salt
2 TBSP butter
2 TBSP cream
vanilla to taste (We like vanilla, so I used about 2 tsp)
Mix the brown sugar and flour together. Add the boiling water and salt. Cook 6-8 minutes over medium heat, stirring constantly.
If too thick, add more water. Remove from heat, add butter, cream and vanilla.
Our plans for this is bread pudding, but it would be delicious over ice cream or even in a cup of coffee. My kids (like me) enjoy caramel much more than chocolate, so this recipe is a keeper!!
